Useful Internet Resources
The Internet Corporation of Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN)
is the starting point for all names and numbers, but most of the useful info is with the organizations it delegates to such as IANA, Regional IP assigners, and Domain Registrars.
Internet Assigned Numbers Authority (IANA)
has service port assignments, protocol numbers, a database of TLDs, etc.
Whois servers for the Regional IP assigners:
American Registry for Internet Numbers (ARIN)
has IP assignments for the Americas.
Réseaux IP Européens Network Coordination Centre (RIPE)
has IP assignments for Europe and the Middle-East
Asia Pacific Network Information Centre (APNIC)
has IP assignments for Asia and the Pacific
The InterNIC
used to be the source of all names, but mostly delegates to the
various registrars
any more.
Everything you need to know about DNS is all gathered in one place by
The DNS Resources Directory
The authoritative source for
Requests for Comment
is
IETF
.
The Ohio State CIS Department
keeps] an archive of
Internet Requests for Comments (RFC)
, which has a nicer interface.
